Buying pies online

Years ago when we were on holiday in Australia, I was dragged unwillingly by my teenage son to an Aussie Rules football match. Not being much of a sports fan, I have trouble following a football match in this country (the offside rule springs to mind) but the Aussie Rules match took confusion to a whole new level. What I did take away from the match though, was the Aussies’ love of good quality pies.

It was whilst he was in Australia that the owner of a certain pie shop in the West Country was inspired to set up his own pie business in the UK. Happily for pie lovers in other parts of the UK, the pies are available online. The website boasts of the high quality handmade artisan products made using the best sustainably sourced ingredients and the pies which I have tasted bear testament to this ethos.

Unlike some of the atrocities that pass for pies, these rather posh pies contain nothing artificial, so no preservatives, no dodgy colourings and no additives. What’s more all the ingredients are free range and where possible local.

If your idea of a pie is a tasty steak and kidney, you will be pleased to know that this is one of the best I have ever tasted. Perhaps it is the addition of tarragon and caramelised onion that gives it the edge. For those with a more adventurous palate the spicy lamb and chorizo ticks the box. Other tempting pies include venison with squash, red onion and juniper berries, chicken and leek, and ham hock and pea. Vegetarians need not feel left out either as there are plenty of
